About the Book

This is the only book ever published covering the history of hunting and the decoys of this major duck hunting area of Michigan and the Great Lakes. It should be of interest to historians, hunters and other outdoor sportsmen, admirers of folk art, collectors of hunting decoys and other sporting collectibles. As Jim Aikin states in his foreword the author "has chronicled, in impressive detail, the history of waterfowl hunting and decoys of Saginaw Bay."

The book has almost 400 pages, over 400 photographs and maps of the area. It includes:
  • Names (and photos) of many of its hunters during the late 1800's through the end of the Twentieth Century.
  • Information (including photos) about the private clubs and public outfitters of the last 100 years.
  • Some of the most interesting and humorous tales of hunters' experiences on the Bay.
  • Information regarding the lives and the carvings of 90 makers of decoys used on the Bay (including many photos), with detailed biographies for 32 of them.
  • General data about the changes in the Bay's environment, makeup of the waterfowl population and conservation efforts over the last 150 years.
